Viking Appliance Repair — Ontario
Viking Professional appliances are built for serious home cooks — and priced accordingly, from $2,500 for an entry-level range to well over $10,000 for a built-in refrigerator. When a Viking appliance fails, you need a technician who understands the engineering behind professional-grade equipment, not someone running through a generic checklist. SureFit Appliance Services provides Viking appliance repair across Ontario, from our Keswick base up to 200 km out — covering the GTA, York Region, Simcoe County, Durham Region, and Grey County.
We hold TSSA certification for gas and propane work, carry genuine Viking parts, and back every completed repair with a 90-day warranty on parts and labour. Our diagnostic fee is $85 + HST per appliance — and we waive it entirely if the repair proceeds.

Common Viking Appliance Problems We Fix
Gas Burner Igniter Failure
Viking gas range igniters wear faster than most people expect. On VGSS and VDSC models, the spark igniters are high-use components under constant thermal stress. When one fails, the burner won’t light — even with gas flowing normally.
We run a spark test to confirm the fault, then replace the igniter with a genuine Viking part. Most burner igniter repairs take under an hour.
Oven Temperature Calibration Issues
You set the oven to 350°F, but your thermometer reads 375°F. This is classic thermostat drift — particularly common in pre-2012 models where the bimetallic thermostat gradually loses accuracy. It’s a subtle problem that ruins roasts and baked goods before most people realise what’s happening.
We recalibrate the thermostat first. If recalibration doesn’t hold, we replace the unit. A $5,000+ range should bake accurately.
Refrigerator Compressor Noise and Poor Cooling
Older Viking refrigerators — particularly Greenfield platform units from the early 2000s — have documented compressor and cooling circuit issues. Symptoms include excessive motor noise, frost buildup on the evaporator coils, and food temperatures rising above safe levels.
We assess whether the compressor can be serviced through condenser coil cleaning and thermostat adjustment, or whether it needs replacement. Often the culprit is a failed start relay or capacitor — far less expensive than a new compressor.
Dishwasher Not Draining — E4 Error Code
Your Viking VDWF dishwasher runs a full cycle but water pools at the bottom. The display shows an E4 error code. The most common cause is sump pump motor failure — the electric pump responsible for ejecting water isn’t turning over.
We replace the sump pump assembly and clear any debris from the drain path. This repair typically costs far less than a replacement dishwasher and restores full function immediately.
Range Door Hinge Failure
Viking range doors are heavy — professional-grade construction comes with real weight. Over time, the hinges wear, and the door no longer closes securely or hangs unevenly. A worn hinge also allows heat to escape during cooking, which throws off oven performance.
We replace faulty hinges with genuine Viking parts rated for the door weight. Replacing hinges early also prevents damage to the door frame itself.
Control Board and Display Errors
Random error codes on your Viking Pro Series range, flickering displays, or unresponsive touchpads all point to a control board fault. These failures are less common than igniter or thermostat problems — but they require precise diagnosis, not guesswork.
We test the board systematically, identify the specific fault (often a failed capacitor or relay), and replace the assembly if needed. We use only genuine Viking control boards to maintain your appliance’s performance.
Viking Reliability — Then and Now
Viking’s history divides neatly into two eras. Pre-2012 models — particularly ranges and refrigerators — had documented issues: thermostat drift, compressor failure, and control board problems were common complaints. If you own a Viking from the early 2000s, you’ve likely already dealt with at least one repair.
After Middleby Corporation acquired Viking, manufacturing quality improved significantly. Post-2012 models are considerably more dependable. We repair both generations — and we give honest guidance on whether a repair makes financial sense versus replacement.
TSSA Certification for Gas Viking Appliance Repair
Gas work on Viking ranges, cooktops, and outdoor grills requires TSSA (Technical Safety Standards Authority) certification in Ontario. SureFit holds full TSSA licensing. We legally diagnose and repair gas ignition systems, burner controls, and safety circuits — work that uncertified technicians cannot legally perform.
We also test for gas leaks, verify burner pressure settings, and confirm all safety interlocks function correctly. Hiring an uncertified technician for gas appliance work creates both a safety risk and a legal liability. Don’t do it.

Frequently Asked Questions — Viking Appliance Repair
Is Viking better than Wolf?
Both brands are built for serious cooking, and both command premium prices. Wolf focuses primarily on ranges and cooktops; Viking offers a broader product line that includes refrigerators and dishwashers. Post-2012 Viking equipment is highly reliable. Wolf ranges are similarly well-engineered. The choice usually comes down to feature preference and kitchen layout. We repair Wolf appliances and Viking with equal depth of knowledge.
Are older Viking ranges (pre-2012) worth repairing?
It depends on the specific repair. Replacing an igniter or thermostat — typically $300–$500 in parts and labour — makes clear sense on a $5,000+ range. A failed control board or compressor on a 15-year-old unit is a closer call. We’ll give you honest, straightforward guidance on repairability during your diagnostic call, so you can make an informed decision.
My Viking oven runs 25 degrees too hot. Can that be fixed?
Yes — and it’s a common problem, especially in pre-2012 models. The cause is almost always bimetallic thermostat drift or a failed thermostat. We recalibrate first; if the calibration won’t hold, we replace the thermostat. The repair typically runs $200–$400 depending on your model and restores accurate baking temperatures.
Do you carry Viking parts on the truck?
We stock the most commonly replaced Viking components — spark igniters, thermostats, sump pump assemblies, and door hinges. Less common parts we order quickly. We use only genuine Viking components on every repair to preserve appliance performance and protect the 90-day warranty we apply to every job.
