Appliance Repair Questions & Answers

A refrigerator that stops cooling or a washing machine that won’t drain mid-cycle demands quick, reliable answers—not a lengthy search. Below you’ll find straight answers to the questions SureFit customers ask most often, covering repair costs, service coverage across the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions, warranties, brand compatibility, and everything in between.

Service Costs & Fees

How much does appliance repair cost?

Repair costs depend on the appliance, the specific fault, and which parts are required. SureFit charges an $85 + HST per appliance diagnostic fee—$14 less than the industry average of $99. Better still, that fee is fully waived when you proceed with the repair, so you’re never paying for the diagnosis on top of the fix. For repair-specific pricing, visit our cost guide or our pricing page.

Do you charge a service call fee?

Yes. The $85 + HST per appliance diagnostic fee covers a thorough assessment of your appliance and a clear explanation of what’s wrong. If you choose to move forward with the repair, that fee disappears from your invoice entirely—you pay once, not twice. Customers who decide not to repair still pay only the $85 + HST per appliance diagnostic, which is meaningfully lower than what most local competitors charge.

What’s included in the 90-day warranty?

Every completed repair is backed by a 90-day warranty covering both parts and labour. If the same problem resurfaces within that window, we return to resolve it at no additional charge. That commitment to standing behind our work is what the warranty is designed to demonstrate.

Do I need to pay upfront?

SureFit accepts multiple payment methods. Ask your technician about available options when they arrive, or call us at (647) 977-2626 when booking to sort out payment details in advance.

Service Availability & Coverage

What areas do you serve?

SureFit Appliance Services is headquartered in Keswick, Ontario, and covers a radius of approximately 200 kilometres from that base. Our service territory includes the Greater Toronto Area, Simcoe County, Grey County, York Region, and Durham Region. Use our service areas hub to confirm we reach your neighbourhood, or call (647) 977-2626 to verify directly.

Can you do same-day repairs?

Same-day appointments may be available. SureFit confirms timing after reviewing your request. For urgent situations, SureFit also provides emergency service. Book your appointment online to check current availability, or visit our emergency repair page for the fastest possible response.

How long does a typical repair take?

Most repairs are completed within one to three hours, though the exact time depends on the appliance, the nature of the fault, and whether parts are on hand. Replacing a drive belt or a thermostat is straightforward and quick; rebuilding a compressor or swapping out a control board takes considerably longer. Your technician will give you a realistic timeframe once they’ve assessed the problem.

Service Details & Brands

Do you service my brand?

SureFit works on all major appliance brands without restriction. GE, LG, Whirlpool, Samsung, Bosch, Maytag, Frigidaire—if it’s a household appliance, our technicians have the hands-on experience and parts access to repair it. Visit our brands page for a complete manufacturer list.

Are you certified for gas appliance repair?

Yes. SureFit technicians hold TSSA certification specifically for gas appliances, including gas ranges, gas dryers, and gas water heaters. Any work performed on gas equipment meets all applicable Ontario regulatory requirements. For full details, visit our gas appliance repair page.

Do you use genuine parts?

We use quality parts appropriate to each repair. Before completing any work, your technician will walk you through the parts being used and where they’re sourced, so you know exactly what’s going into your appliance.

Preparing for Your Repair

Do I need to be home during the repair?

Yes. Your technician needs access to the appliance itself, and potentially to your electrical panel or gas line depending on the job. Being present also allows you to describe when the problem first appeared, how the appliance has been behaving, and to ask questions as the diagnosis unfolds.

What should I do while waiting for my repair appointment?

A few practical steps can limit damage in the meantime. If your refrigerator is warming up, transfer perishables to a cooler with ice. If your washer is stuck mid-cycle with a drum full of water, avoid forcing the lid or door open. For gas appliances, a smell of gas means you should shut off the appliance, leave the area immediately, and contact your gas provider before doing anything else. For general guidance, browse our services hub or call us at (647) 977-2626.

My appliance stopped working suddenly—what should I check first?

Start with the fundamentals before calling for service. Confirm the appliance is plugged in and test the outlet with another device. Check your electrical panel for a tripped breaker and reset it if you find one. For gas appliances, verify the gas supply valve is in the open position. On washers and dishwashers, make sure the water supply valves are fully open. If none of these checks resolve the problem, schedule a diagnostic visit and let a technician take it from there.

Repair vs. Replacement

Is it worth repairing an old appliance?

The honest answer depends on three factors: the appliance’s age, the estimated repair cost, and its overall condition. A widely used benchmark is the 40–50% rule—if the repair costs less than half the price of a comparable new unit and the appliance has been otherwise reliable, repair typically makes stronger financial sense. Repeated breakdowns on an older machine, however, are a reasonable signal that replacement will cost less over time. SureFit technicians will give you a candid assessment during the diagnostic call, including a clear cost comparison to help you decide.

Installation & Additional Services

Can you install new appliances?

Yes. When replacement is the right call, SureFit provides professional installation services that cover delivery coordination, removal of the old unit, full installation, and utility hookup. Details are available on our appliance installation page.

Do you repair specific appliances like fridges or washers?

SureFit repairs all common household appliances. Dedicated service pages cover refrigerator repair, washer repair, dryer repair, dishwasher repair, oven and range repair, and freezer repair, each with detail on frequent faults and how they’re resolved.
